l e v e l - o f - d e t a i l : l-systemThis page goes through the creation of the spanish moss L-System for the level-of detail assignment. It was created using SideFX Houdini
This was my first attempt at creating an L-System |

This is a screenshot of the rules I used.
I included seperate versions of both the "B" and "D" variables so that I can call each using a probability to create a more randomized branching no matter what the number of generations.
Other values:
Step Size: 0.265 Step Size Scale: 0.896 Angle: 28 Angle Scale: 0.7
Tension: 2.81 Thickness: 0.1 Thickness Scale: 0.57 Branch Blend: 0 |

The benefit of using an L-System to create the moss is that it allows me to specify a number of generations to easily adjust the length of the particular strand.
This also allows for the growth of the strand to be animated over time in a more natural manner.
Again, because of the probability when choosing the variables "B" and "D" in the rules of the system, no matter what the number of generations the branching of the strand is still somewhat random. |
